Addressing Landowner Concerns

Addressing Landowner Concerns

There are often concerns raised when trails are proposed in proximity to private lands, particularly in rural areas of the province. Good communication, including community and stakeholder consultation, is needed well in advance of any trail planning or development. User awareness, respect for other trail and land users, and good stewardship are as important as good trail planning and design in ensuring enjoyable recreation experiences and good relations with adjacent landowners.

Trail builders and operators are often responsible for managing and maintaining trails. They usually do this work as volunteers in order to ensure opportunities for public use and access to trails. The public can play an important part in supporting these volunteer efforts by practising good stewardship and applying Respect the Land principles.
