Great Divide Trail – Volunteers needed

The Great Divide Trail Association is looking for volunteers for a trail maintenance trip in the Pinto Lake area from Sunday, August 14 to Thursday, August 18 (inclusive). This is your opportunity to join us in the mountains, build some trail, sleep under the stars, and be inspired!
The tentative itinerary is as follows:
• Sunday, August 14: leave Calgary around 9:00 am and carpool to the trailhead near Saskatchewan River Crossing. Hike 14km over Sunset Pass (765 m elevation gain) and down to Pinto Lake campground.
• Monday – Wednesday: trail work on the Great Divide Trail, including clearing the trail corridor, establishing trail tread and possible minor reroutes, marking the trail with blazes or cairns.
• Thursday, August 18: hike out 14km over Sunset Pass and drive back to Calgary, returning by dinner time.
We will be backcountry camping for the duration of this maintenance trip, spending 4 nights at Pinto Lake campground. Volunteers will be responsible for their own food and personal camping gear (tent, cooking, clothing).
All trail maintenance tools and training will be provided by the GDTA or our trip partner, the Alberta Environment and Parks Flood Rehabilitation Program, which will also be sending in a small crew.
Volunteers will hike in with their personal gear, while all tools and maintenance equipment will be flown in and out byhelicopter. Note that GDTA volunteers will not be using any power tools (such as chainsaws), only hand tools.
