NOTICE: AltaLink Weed Control Activities east of Canmore

AltaLink weed control activities near Heart Creek Trail and Powerline trails east of Canmore. Statement from AltaLink:

AltaLink takes steps to help prevent the growth of weeds along our rights-of-way. Weed control activities are scheduled to begin on July 11 as part of our 113L Transmission Line Rebuild project and are anticipated to last for approximately one week for the 23-kilometre transmission line route.

These activities will involve targeted herbicide application and manual removal of invasive weed species along AltaLink’s right-of-way to help prevent their spread and protect the region’s native biodiversity. This will include work near Heart Creek Trail and near Powerline Trail. The trails will not be closed during this time.

The invasive weed species include Canada thistle, oxeye daisy and yellow toadflax. We only use herbicides approved by Health Canada.

During weed control activities, you may see or hear the following near you:

  • vehicles along AltaLink’s right-of-way, including UTVs and trucks
  • noise and crews on site between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • spraying equipment

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we work to ensure the safety and reliability of the electric system in the area.
